The Salmon River Central School District Board of Education announced that Interim Superintendent Dr. Terrance P. Dougherty has resigned from his position due to personal matters, effective April 3.
“The Board of Education sincerely thanks Dr. Dougherty for his dedication to the Salmon River Central School District and for his continued support of our students, staff and families” said Board of Education President Jason Brockway.
Following his resignation, Dr. Dougherty will continue to support the district in a limited capacity as an administrative consultant to assist with leadership needs and help ensure a smooth transition.
At a special meeting held on Tuesday, March 17, the Board of Education appointed High School Principal Ben Barkley as the new interim superintendent, effective April 4. Barkley has served the Salmon River Central School District for more than 20 years in a variety of roles, demonstrating a deep commitment to the district and its students.
Barkley said he is honored to step into this leadership role and is committed to supporting the district during this transition while continuing to move the district forward.
“I am dedicated to serving the Salmon River community during this time and ensuring we continue to focus on what matters most, supporting our students and staff,” Barkley said. “I look forward to working closely with the Board of Education, district leadership, and our school community to maintain stability and continue building on the progress already underway.”
The Board of Education continues to work with FEH BOCES District Superintendent Dale Breault on the search for a permanent superintendent, with the goal of naming a new district leader in summer 2026.
