The Salmon River Central School District has been selected as a recipient of the EPA’s 2022 Clean School Bus (CSB) Rebates Program.

The district will receive $4.3 million to replace up to 11 school buses with new electric, zero-emission models. The grant includes $220,000 for constructing charging infrastructure at the district’s existing bus garage facility. Out of the school districts in the North Country selected for funding, Salmon River received the largest amount.

“We are thrilled to hear that Salmon River is receiving this federal rebate,” said Transportation Supervisor Norman Treptow. “This funding will help us evolve our services while still continuing to safely transport our students to school every day.”

“This new federal funding allows the Salmon River Central School District to continue to lead the way in the North Country,” said Superintendent Dr. Stanley Harper. “The EPA’s Clean School Bus Rebate gives our district’s transportation services the opportunity to become more environmentally-friendly without any upfront impact on our taxpayers.”

The district is currently working to develop a timeline for when the new buses will be put into service and when the new charging infrastructure will be installed. The federal government requires that this process be completed by October 2024.
