School bus drivers typically work part-time, generally in the mornings and afternoons with a break in between. Drivers can count on weekends, evenings and summers off, as well as paid holidays. Additionally, drivers may opt to work additional hours, covering late bus runs and sports or field trips. There may also be other opportunities to work additional hours within the Salmon River School District depending on availability.

The flexibility of the schedule makes the position ideal for retirees, business owners, remote workers, stay-at-home parents or college students.

Drivers must possess the appropriate level New York State Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (“P”) and School (“S”) endorsements in order to drive a bus. Additionally, candidates must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.

Salmon River Central School District is the only school district in Franklin County that hosts a certified training facility. Training to obtain the proper licensing required to drive a school bus is free for those who intend to become a bus driver at Salmon River.
