Books of the Month 2008-2009

Why a book of the month?
When a school shares a book, and family participation is encouraged. a spirit of community is promoted. The books of the month are chosen based on content that addresses human feelings and encourages the human universal values of empathy and caring. Sharing these types of stories help to build a sense of community among students in a classroom, in the school building, and district-wide, through the development of positive character traits. Instilling concepts such as generosity, responsibility, perseverance, acceptance, honesty, respect and cooperation helps children to experience success both academically and socially.
Usually a picture book, it can be read in one sitting in classrooms at all grade levels. The spirit of a literate community is fostered when the whole community has a shared reading experience.
Every community wants to foster happy, socially-responsible children. So ask a child you know about the book of the month!
